The Philosophy of Faith
The Philosophy of Faith reading group meets twice a term at Blackfriars Hall, University of Oxford. The Philosophy of Faith may be contrasted with the Philosophy of Religion. The latter often concerns itself with issues such as whether God exists, the problem of evil, the rationality of belief in miracles, etc. The focus of the texts read in the Philosophy of Faith reading group will instead be on what it is to have or lose faith, what it is to pray, believe, worship, love, etc. It asks not so much 'do we have souls?' but rather 'do we have soul?' Currently Reading: John Cottingham (2024), The Humane Perspective , Part 4. Oxford University Press. Next meeting: 4pm, Tuesday 12th November (5th week, Michaelmas 2024), seminar room, Blackfriars, St Giles, Oxford, UK. If you are interested in joining the group, please email the convenor, Richard Gipps .
